A Brief History of Royalty-Free Stock Footage
Stock footage kicked off in the 1920s—film studios hoarded outtakes, newsreels, and b-roll, selling scraps to pad budgets. “Footage” came from early film—literal feet of celluloid, measured in length, not time.
