The Clent Hills - A cold winter sunrise on Walton Hill - Limited Edition Canvas
An incredible cold winter sunrise scene of the Clent Hills in Worcestershire England. The ridge of Walton Hill and the surrounding trees are covered with a light dusting of snow and a fierce frost. Sunrise is breaking through the thick layers of freezing fog, giving a beautiful warm glow on the hills.
This image wasn't painted in a studio. It was earned during a "cold-snap" in December 2022, where temperatures on the summit dropped to -8°C.
I headed up Walton Hill—the highest point of the Clent Hills at 316 meters—an hour before sunrise. My main objective was to film stock footage timelapses using my Sony A7iii and drone. This print captures the specific moment of relief: when the sun finally broke the horizon, hitting the thick, frozen foliage with warmth after a long, biting night.
It contrasts the white, frosty trees of the foreground against the golden haze of the Worcestershire morning.
The Clent Hills are a range of ancient sandstone rising from the West Midlands. From this vantage point on Walton Hill, you can see out to the Clee Hills, The Wrekin, and the Malvern Hills. On a clear day, you can even spot the Peak District.
This area is steeped in local lore, sitting near Wychbury Hill, the site of the infamously unsolved WWII-era mystery: "Who put Bella in the Wych Elm?" This limited edition canvas captures the atmosphere of that landscape—beautiful, historic, and occasionally eerie.
