Snowdonia Stock Footage: Llyn Llydaw's Depths & Crib Goch's Deadly Edge
Snowdonia National Park. Eryri. It’s a landscape that commands respect, and frankly, demands immense effort to capture properly. It draws you in with its breathtaking beauty – the vast mountain ranges, the deep glacial valleys, the serene lakes – but it always reminds you of its raw power, often through relentless weather! I say this with confidence: I believe I offer the best Snowdonia stock footage available anywhere, simply because I've put in the hard yards. Years of climbing these mountains, countless nights spent wild camping (often fuelled by little more than steak and Pot Noodles), enduring days of drizzle waiting for a break in the clouds, feeling the sting of an icy beard in winter – it takes hundreds of days out there, battling the elements, waiting hours for that perfect, fleeting light, to capture the kind of brilliance this place offers. Two locations within the Snowdon Horseshoe area encapsulate this perfectly: the deep, reflective waters of Llyn Llydaw and the infamous, knife-edge ridge of Crib Goch. Capturing these iconic spots, especially from the unique perspective a drone offers, was the focus of my filming for Clip Pack #207 - Llyn Llydaw & Crib Goch Drone Stock Footage.
Flying a drone here isn't straightforward. The weather can turn in an instant, winds can howl unpredictably through the passes, and the terrain itself demands careful piloting. But the rewards are immense – perspectives that reveal the relationship between the tranquil lake, the historical scars on the landscape, and the terrifying exposure of one of Britain's most challenging ridges.

Capture the awe-inspiring majesty of Snowdonia's peaks and lakes with this dedicated drone footage collection.
Llyn Llydaw: The Miner's Lake Below Snowdon
Nestled dramatically at the foot of Snowdon itself, Llyn Llydaw is one of the park's most stunning lakes. Its deep, often dark waters reflect the towering peaks surrounding it, creating moments of incredible beauty, especially when the light is right. But Llydaw isn't just a pretty picture; it holds history within its depths and along its shores.
For centuries, this area was a hub of copper mining activity. The Britannia Copper Mine operated here, and remnants of the workings – old tracks, crusher buildings, spoil heaps – can still be seen near the causeway that crosses the lake and along the Miners' Track ascending towards Snowdon. It’s fascinating to fly a drone low over the water, as I did for this pack, and see not only the reflections of the peaks but also these subtle signs of human industry etched into the ancient landscape. Some legends even link the lake to Arthurian myth, suggesting it might be the watery resting place of Excalibur – adding another layer of mystique to its deep waters.
My drone footage in Clip Pack #207 specifically explores Llyn Llydaw from these low angles, skimming close to the surface, capturing the reflections, the texture of the surrounding rocky slopes, and those intriguing remnants of the old mining works. These shots offer a unique perspective, different from the standard high-altitude views, immersing the viewer right into the heart of the cwm.
Crib Goch: The Infamous Red Ridge
Looming high above Llyn Llydaw and the Llanberis Pass is Crib Goch. Its name translates to "Red Ridge," and it strikes fear and excitement into the hearts of mountaineers in equal measure. This isn't a hike; it's a Grade 1 scramble, a knife-edge arête with precipitous drops on either side. There are sections where you have hundreds of metres of exposure beneath you – a true test of nerve, head for heights, and scrambling ability.
It's widely regarded as one of the most dangerous ridge routes in the UK, and sadly, accidents and even fatalities are not uncommon, often involving walkers who underestimate its technical difficulty or attempt it in poor weather conditions (high winds or ice make it exceptionally treacherous). Mountain Rescue teams are frequently called out here. It demands respect, experience, and the right conditions.
Filming Crib Goch with a drone presents its own challenges. The winds funnelling along the ridge can be fierce and unpredictable. Maintaining stable flight while capturing the sheer exposure and the jagged pinnacles requires careful piloting and a good understanding of mountain weather. However, the aerial perspective is uniquely suited to showcasing Crib Goch's dramatic reality. My footage in Clip Pack #207 includes stunning, dramatic drone shots that track along the ridge, orbit the pinnacles, and look down those terrifying drops, truly conveying the scale and exposure of this legendary scramble in a way ground-based footage simply cannot. These shots aren't for the faint-hearted, even to watch!
Inside Clip Pack #207
This pack is purely focused on delivering these dramatic aerial perspectives. It contains 41 drone clips in 4K UHD, totalling over 8 minutes of footage. The focus is squarely on:
Llyn Llydaw: Low-level flights over the water, shots incorporating the old mine workings, reflections of Snowdon and surrounding peaks.
Crib Goch: Revealing shots tracking along the ridge, orbits showcasing the exposure, views looking down the steep flanks, capturing the jagged nature of the arête.
Surrounding Scenery: Wide establishing shots placing the lake and ridge within the broader Snowdon Horseshoe landscape, capturing the rocky slopes and mountain majesty.
At just £595, this pack offers exceptional value for highly specific, professionally captured drone footage of two of Snowdonia's most iconic and challenging locations. The licensing, as always, includes 4K resolution and broadcast/film use with no extra fees or circulation limits (full T&Cs apply).
